Timing exterior work at Tahoe

Exterior paint and stain need dry weather and temperatures within the product's range, so the window at the lake is mostly late spring through early fall. Book early, as that window fills up.

Interior painting can happen any time of year.

HOA and TRPA colors

Many Tahoe HOAs have approved exterior color palettes. Inside the Basin, TRPA also has design guidance that favors earth-tone colors that blend with the landscape for many properties. Check before you change the color of a visible exterior.

Common questions

How often does exterior stain need redoing at Tahoe?

It depends on the product, the exposure and the wood. Sunny sides wear faster. The best sign is when water stops beading and the wood starts to gray.

Can I pick any exterior color?

Not always. Check your HOA rules, and inside the Basin check TRPA guidance, before changing exterior colors.

Do you paint in winter?

Interior work, yes. Exterior work waits for suitable weather.
