Right around the house
- Clear pine needles from roofs, gutters and decks
- Move firewood and other burnables away from the house
- Clear under decks
- Replace damaged vent screens with fine metal mesh
- Keep plants near the house low and well-watered
California and Nevada
California law requires defensible space around homes in many areas. Nevada fire agencies strongly recommend it too, and many Tahoe fire districts offer free inspections and chipping programs. Contact your local fire district for current rules and services.
Where a handyman helps
We can replace vent screens, clear debris, repair deck boards and help with other hands-on tasks. Tree removal and larger fuel reduction should go to qualified tree services.
