A Tahoe deck lives under snow for months and in strong sun the rest of the year. That combination wears out boards, fasteners and railings faster than in milder places.

We replace damaged boards, tighten and repair railings and stairs, and refresh the finish so the deck holds up another season.

What's included

  • Replace cracked, cupped or soft boards
  • Re-secure loose boards and popped fasteners
  • Railing and baluster repairs
  • Stair tread and stringer repairs
  • Clean and re-stain or seal
  • Flag concerns about posts, beams or ledger for a licensed pro

Signs you need this

  • Boards that flex or feel soft
  • Railings that wobble
  • Popped nails or screws
  • Gray, splintering wood
  • Water pooling against the house

Snow and decks

Heavy snow puts a lot of load on a deck, and shoveling with metal tools can gouge boards. After a big winter, it's worth walking the deck, checking the railings and looking underneath.

If posts, beams or the ledger board where the deck attaches to the house look damaged or rotted, that's structural and should be looked at by a licensed contractor before the deck is used.

Repair or replace?

If a handful of boards are bad and the framing is sound, repair makes sense. If the framing is rotted or the deck is near the end of its life, replacement may be the better call and usually needs a permit.

Common questions

Can you check if my deck is safe?

We can look for obvious problems and fix surface issues. Structural concerns go to a licensed contractor or engineer.

When is the best time for deck work at Tahoe?

Late spring through fall, when the deck is clear of snow and stain can cure.

Do I need a permit to repair my deck?

Small repairs usually don't. Rebuilds and structural work often do. Inside the Basin, TRPA rules may also apply to new or expanded decks.
